Moving in Turner
Turner is one of Canberra's most sought-after inner-north suburbs, sitting less than two kilometres from the Parliamentary Triangle. The housing is a layered mix of original 1950s and 60s red-brick homes on generous blocks and a significant amount of infill: townhouses, terraces and small apartment blocks that have accumulated over the past three decades as the suburb's premium address status has driven redevelopment. This is a suburb where carry distance and access vary house by house — some properties have long driveways and landscaped paths that require careful furniture navigation; others front directly onto the street with short, clear access. Many residents are senior public servants, academics and embassy staff. We plan at the address level here: send us the street number and we will assess the truck-to-door path before quoting the crew size.
Local access & logistics
Every Turner move starts with the access, because that is what decides the truck, the crew and the timing. Here is what we plan around in Turner:
- Mix of original 1950s-60s homes on wide blocks and 2000s-era infill townhouses — access varies by address, not by suburb
- Some inner streets are narrow by ACT standards; a medium-sized truck is often better than a full-size vehicle in the residential core
- Close to Parliamentary Triangle — heavy vehicle access restrictions apply near Embassy Row and Parliament House precinct
- High proportion of senior APS and diplomatic residents means regular inter-city posting moves to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
Send us the pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we'll tell you exactly how we'd handle your move, including parking, the carry and any lift or staircase that needs a plan.

Parking and access for removals in the ACT
The ACT has no council-issued removalist parking permit. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) manages all ACT roads, and there is no residential or commercial permit program that lets you reserve kerbside space for a move truck. In practice this means: arrive early to secure an unrestricted kerbside bay, use a loading zone where one exists (many town centres and apartment buildings have designated loading areas), and for buildings with loading docks, book the dock with building management at least 48 hours ahead. The Parliamentary Triangle and surrounding embassy precincts have heavy vehicle restrictions — trucks must approach via designated freight corridors and cannot idle on restricted Embassy Row streets. Outside these precincts, Canberra's planned-suburb grid streets are wide, flat and well-kerbed, so access is straightforward in most residential areas. Apartment buildings with goods lifts require a separate booking with the body corporate or building manager, independent of the parking question.
Turner removals: common questions
Some Turner streets look narrow on the map — can a full removal truck get in?
Turner's original 1950s and 60s residential streets are narrower than the post-1970s ACT planned suburbs. A full-size pantech can access most streets, but in the denser infill sections closer to the Parliamentary Triangle it is often better practice to use a medium-size vehicle. We check the specific street and house number at booking — the carriageway width, any overhead branches, and the driveway approach angle all factor into the truck size decision.
Our Turner property is near Embassy Row — are there access restrictions for trucks?
Yes. The Parliamentary Triangle and Embassy Row precincts have heavy vehicle restrictions on some streets, particularly those closest to Parliament House, the national cultural institutions, and the embassy compounds on Empire Circuit and Mugga Way. Removal trucks are not prohibited from the surrounding suburb streets, but the approach route matters. We plan the truck route at booking to avoid restricted segments and use the correct freight access roads.
We are doing a large estate move from Turner — how do you plan for high-value items?
Turner has a high proportion of large homes with valuable furniture, artworks and items that need custom wrapping. We use heavy-duty moving blankets and shrink wrap on all furniture as standard, and can arrange custom crating for artwork, mirrors, and fragile antiques. For pianos and oversized pieces we bring specific equipment and confirm carry path access before the day. Let us know at enquiry if you have items in these categories and we will factor them into the crew and time estimate.
How much does a removal in Turner cost?
Our online-quote rates start at $200/hour for two movers and a truck ($250 for three movers, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks), and you get a clear indicative quote up front for your specific move. No surprises on the day.
