About
Canberra Removals handles house, office and APS moves across the ACT, covering Belconnen to Tuggeranong and everything in between.
Canberra Removals is a professional removals service covering the ACT and the Canberra region. We handle house moves, office relocations, single-item deliveries and interstate runs, with the Canberra-Sydney corridor a regular part of our work. Whether you’re shifting a government posting, moving into a new build in Gungahlin, or clearing a mid-century home in Deakin, we know the suburbs we work in and plan accordingly.
Moving in Canberra: what’s actually different
Canberra looks easy on a map. The planned grid suburbs come with wide arterials and generally good street access. In practice, each precinct has its own quirks, and getting the truck placement right the first time is how you avoid a very expensive second trip.
Gungahlin and the newer suburbs have plenty of medium-density townhouse complexes with boom gates, narrow internal driveways, and shared-entry restrictions. Some complexes require a booking with the body corporate before any vehicle over 3.5t can enter. We check this in advance.
Inner-north heritage streets (Turner, Lyneham, O’Connor, parts of Lyons) have mature trees overhanging tight laneways and older properties with limited off-street access. These moves take more time to load; we factor that into your quote.
Deakin, Red Hill and the inner south mix large homes on generous blocks with steep driveways and occasionally heritage-listed interiors with tight staircases. More furniture protection, more crew.
Belconnen apartment towers and the new-build stock around Woden and Phillip have lift access requirements and time-of-day restrictions from the building manager. We coordinate lift bookings and adjust start times to fit.
APS posting cycles create a consistent pattern of professional moves across the city. Financial year end (June and July) and the start of a new parliamentary term are the busiest periods. If your move is tied to a posting confirmation date, booking a removalist early, before your notice period ends, is almost always the right call.
The Canberra-Sydney corridor is approximately 290km via the Federal and Hume highways, roughly three to four hours by truck depending on load and conditions. We run this route regularly: both dedicated moves (your furniture, your truck, your day) and backloads when your timing is flexible and a shared run makes sense.
What we do
- House moves across the ACT: single rooms, full family homes, everything in between.
- Office and commercial relocations: desks, workstations, IT equipment, filing, boardrooms. Coordinated to minimise your downtime.
- Apartment moves: including lift coordination, body corporate access, tight internal corridors.
- Interstate removals: primarily the Canberra-Sydney corridor, with dedicated and backload options.
- Packing and unpacking: full packing service available, or just the fragile items if you prefer to handle the rest yourself.
- Furniture assembly and disassembly: flat-pack and larger pieces broken down for the truck and reassembled at the new address.
How we work
We plan around your actual move, not a generic checklist. That means asking about your specific building, your street, your access constraints, and your timeline, before we quote. You get a fixed price for the job agreed in writing; no meter-running.
- Local knowledge first. We know the boom gate complexes, the trees in the laneways, and which streets in Gungahlin still have no parking on move-out day.
- Realistic scheduling. We tell you how long it will take, not a number we back off on the day.
- Professional crew. Experienced movers who protect floors, doorframes and banisters without being asked.
- Clear communication. One point of contact from quote to completion.
Our rates
- Two movers and a truck: from $200/hr
- Three movers and a truck: from $250/hr
- Four movers and two trucks: from $400/hr
Interstate and long-distance moves are quoted as a fixed price based on your inventory and access details.
